About

I am a nature enthusiast. I have been a photographer for many years and now also doing video. I am an organic gardener. And, I was in agricultural research for over 20 years. I’m in the process of writing a couple of ebooks (see the Book page on this site) that will include images, video, and audio.

  1. Hello,
I recently purchased a Sony HXR-NX70U NXCAM Compact Camcorder, in fact reading your blogs and seeing some of your videos cemented my decision to go ahead and get this neat little camcorder; the only drawback (in my mind) is the lack of interchangeable lenses. Now that I finally received my NX7OU I’m having quite a few issues with the unit. I’ve only had the camera a week and I can’t connect it to my PC using the supplied cables and I’m having issues with the GPS and simultaneous picture input during video record.
I searched the web and didn’t find any info regarding Camera to PC USB connection; I haven’t really delved into to GPS and Picture function. If you could get back to me (via email), that would be great, if you’re too busy and can’t be bothered, I’ll understand.
    Thx for your time.

    • Hello Pete,

I have a mac computer so I have no experience with the pc and the NX70. On the mac I have used an sd card to transfer clips to the computer. I record onto the hard drive of the camcorder, then bring up the review clips screen. touch menu, touch edit/copy, touch copy, touch Int. Memory-Memory Card, then choose either Multiple Images or All in Event, then choose HDMovie STDMovie or Photo and it will bring up the last event, touch the clips you want to move to the sd card. They suggest you have the NX70 hooked up to the charging cable when you do this procedure. Unhook the charger when you are done and make sure the NX70 is turned off when you remove the sd card. When I put the sd card into the mac the mac doesn’t automatically open imovie edit software. It first opens iphoto to allow me to import any still photos. I close iphoto andI have to manually open imove then go to my file menue and click on import from camera. Then imovie recognizes the card as it would a camera. Again I don’t know if this will help for a pc. And you would have to purchase the proper sd card class 10 or better. Note that there is also an option in the menu to record to the hard drive and the sd card simultaneously.

The gps I don’t use so have no experience with it. But for all questions Sony Customer support by phone is sometimes helpful. Just get in touch with the Pro Camcorder section of support. B & H Photo Video also is helpful

By the way, The NX70 only having a 10x optical zoom is my biggest drawback. But I’m even getting used to that.
Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions.
      Peace, Jimmy
